TEF test by the Chamber of commerce and industry of Paris is a French language test which aims at assessing the knowledge and proficiency level in French language of people for whom French is not their mother tongue.
TEF gives the candidate a linguistic photography of his/her level in French language by putting him/her on a scale of 7 levels as per the European Common Framework of References for Languages and the Canadian Language Proficiency Levels.
TEF is meant for candidates for whom French language is not their mother tongue, who are at least 16 years old, and who want their real proficiency in French language to be assessed. It can be used for a higher eductaion project, an emigration project towards a French speaking country, or for personnal goals.
TEF is made up of two series of examinations :
- Multiple Choice Questions divided into three undividable parts
Reading (CE) 60 min – 50 questions – 300 points
Listening (CO) 40 min – 60 questions – 360 points
Vocabulary and structure (LS) 30 min – 40 questions – 240 points
- Production examinations, divided in two independant parts
Writing (EE) 60 min – 2 topics - 450 points
Speaking (EO) 35 min – 2 topics - 450 points
TEF results certificate mentions the scores obtained in each examination, detailed comments for each skill and for each candidate, as well as a visual summary of the results.
No previous diploma is required to sit for TEF examinations. It is possible to sit for the test several times.
