I am proud to present the Arangetram of my student Leila Rasul Khan. An Arangetram is essentially a stage dance-debut of a student after she/he has completed many years of formal training, and when the Guru feels that the disciple is now ready for a solo public performance. It is like a graduation ceremony where the Guru presents her/his student to the public.
Leila Rasul Khan became my student at the age of 6 and has been studying with me for over 12 years now. She has been part of my dance and theatre troupe and has performed in many of our major events both locally and abroad. Some of these have been the Faiz Mela in London in 2014 and The Asian Literature Day celebrated at the Embassy of Pakistan in Rome, Italy.
Leila is an outstanding student of Karachi Grammar School and is completing her ’A’ Levels presently. She has a special interest in arts and has been active with us in the social work of Tehrik-e-Niswan. She has learnt the classical dance forms of Bharatanatyam, Odissi and Kathak. Her Arangetram will display the complete and entire repertoire of the classical Bharatanatyam dance form. This is perhaps the very first Arangetram that has ever taken place in Pakistan.
