Join award-winning author and independent publisher Shandana Minhas for a conversation about new trends in Pakistani literature.
Shandana, winner of the 2015 French Embassy award for Best Fiction at the Karachi Literature Festival, will discuss science fiction, dystopia, “weird fiction” and genre lit. She’ll also talk about her new publishing venture Mongrel Books and its first novel, a science fiction novel by Sidra F. Sheikh called The Light Blue Jumper. She’ll be joined in conversation by Bina Shah, novelist and columnist, whose dystopian novel Sleep will be published in the United States next year.

|Shandana Minhas is an award-winning Pakistani writer. Her first novel, ‘Tunnel Vision’, was published in 2007 and shortlisted for the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize. Her second novel, ‘Survival Tips for Lunatics’, won the French Embassy prize for fiction at the Karachi Literature Festival in 2015. Her third novel ‘Daddy’s Boy’ was published in 2016.
Ms Minhas has also written for stage, screen and opinion pages. Her short fiction has appeared in literary magazines, and been adapted for cinema. She is a college dropout, a mother of three, and an Honorary Fellow in Writing of the International Writing Program at the University of Iowa. She still lives in Karachi where she co-founded, in 2016, the small press Mongrel Books.
|Bina Shah is a Pakistani writer from Karachi. She has been a regular contributor to the International New York Times, and she also writes for Dawn, Pakistan’s biggest English-language newspaper.
She holds degrees from Wellesley College and the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and is an alum of the University of Iowa’s International Writers Program. Her forthcoming novel SLEEP is a feminist dystopia to be published by Delphinium Books in summer 2018.
